چکیده
S100P protein consists of 95 amino acids with a molecular weight of 10.4 kDa. S100P is a Ca binding protein that belongs to S100 family ("Soluble in 100% saturated solution with ammonium sulfate") which was first isolated from human placenta and is therefore designated as "P". S100 family includes at least 26 members, which are thought to be expressed only in vertebrates and are present in a tissue and cell-specific manner. S100 proteins are characterized by common structural motifs including 2 EF-hands (helix-loop-helix calcium binding domains) with different affinities for calcium ions, a central hinge region and the C-terminal extension. The Nterminal half of the protein contains an unconventional EF hand that binds calcium with lower affinity, while the C-terminal is canonical and binds calcium with high affinity. The connecting hinge region and the Cterminal extension are the most variable regions and thus determine the functional specificity of S100 family members, including S100P. In addition to Ca, S100P also binds Zn and Mg and can form homoand heterodimers.

Nonhydrolyzable guanine nucleotide analogues were used to evaluate the role of guanine nucleotide binding (G) proteins in regulating pepsinogen secretion from streptolysin O-permeabilized chief cells from guinea pig stomach. In the presence of 100 nM calcium, 100 microM guanosine 5'-(beta,gamma-imido)triphosphate or guanosine 5'-3-O-(thio)triphosphate (GTP gamma S) caused a 2- to 4-fold increas...

Two different calcium-binding proteins, S-100 and calmodulin, have been isolated from bovine brain by calcium-dependent affinity chromatography on calmodulin antagonist coupled to Sepharose. Calmodulin antagonist N-(6-aminohexyl)-5-chloro-l-napthdenesulfonamide (W-7) has been coupled to epoxy-activated Sepharose 6B or cyanogen bromide-acitivated Sepharose 4B. S-100-like protein bound to W-7 cou...

BACKGROUND Cross-sectional and retrospective studies have associated major depressive disorder with glial activation and injury as well as blood-brain barrier disruption, but these associations have not been assessed prospectively. Here, we aimed to determine the relationship between changes in depressive symptom severity and in blood levels of S-100 calcium-binding protein B (S-100B), high-sen...
